Prior to Wednesday night’s game, Ben Sheets remarked that he was going to show C.C. Sabathia who the Brewers’ real ace is.  Just kidding.  But Sheets did display brilliance early on, striking out the side in the first two innings and finishing with eleven.   Third baseman Bill Hall crushed a Glendon Rusch changeup and sent it well over the left field wall to give the Brewers an early 1-0 lead, but the offense provided Sheets no further run support, and once Big Ben surrendered a two-run blast by Garret Atkins, the game was not looking great, with the Brewers down by two.

Enter Mitch Stetter, give the Rockies another run off a two out hit by former Brewer Scott Podsednik, (his second such hit of the game) and the score is 4-1 Colorado.  Bill Hall then doubled and scored on a looping hit to center field by Mike Cameron, cutting the lead to 4-2.  Cameron, ever the savvy base runner, stole second, advanced to third on a Jason Kendall groundout, and trotted home on a clutch pinch hit by Russell Branyan

The Rockies were not satisfied with the one run lead, though, and Garret Atkins hit another round tripper off of struggling reliever Guillermo Mota.  Catcher Chris Ianetta followed with a triple, allowing to swell the Colorado lead to three again.  Adding insult to injury, young first baseman Joe Koshansky hit a two out, two run homerun to center field, blowing the game wide open.  The Brewers offense was lethargic after the eighth inning outburst, and Milwaukee dropped a listless loss to the banged up Colorado Rockies.  Their 2008 record against the Rox is now an unimpressive 2-4.

Alex’s Take:

The Brewers continued a disturbing trend of being shut down offensively by less than great pitchers, not to take anything away from Glendon Rusch, who pitched his heart out Wednesday night, but his E.R.A. coming into the game was over 7.  Not to mention the Achilles’ Heel of the Milwaukee baseball club: the bullpen.  Guillermo Mota has tremendous stuff, a fastball that occasionally gets up to 97 MPH and a nasty changeup, but nothing, absolutely nothing he throws is fooling the hitters he is facing right now.  He should be given a much lesser role in the pen and Eric Gagne, who has been throwing very effectively since returning from the disabled list, should be promoted to the eighth inning role.  Mota’s potential is quite high, but the amount of games he is costing Milwaukee should be a warning flag to Ned Yost that this reliever is either way past his prime or should at least be taken out of this high pressure job.

J.J. Hardy led the Milwaukee Brewers with three rbi as they defeated Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks by the score of 8-6 on Tuesday night.  Hardy hit a solo home run off Johnson in the second inning and finished the game with three rbi to lead the team.  They were able to knock the Big Unit out of the game after only 3 2/3 innings.

Joe Dillon hit his first home run of the season in the second inning off of Johnson as well.  Dillion finished the game with two rbi as they both came on the home run.  Mike Rivera had a rbi double and a rbi single in the game to record two rbi in the game.  Corey Hart contributed with one rbi in the game as well.

Jeff Suppan pitched five innings while giving up nine hits and five runs to pick up the win.  Suppan didn’t have his best stuff out there on the mound but he was able to get through five innings and improve his record to 5-6.  He should really thank his bullpen and offense for picking up the win for him.

Mitch Stetter, David Riske, Guillermo Mota. and Salomon Torres all pitched one inning of relief for the Brew crew.  Mota was the only reliever to give up any runs as he gave up two hits and one run in the eighth inning.

The Brewers will now try to take the series lead on Wednesday night.  Brewers Blog

The Milwaukee Brewers were attempting to sweep the Atlanta Braves in their three game series but the Braves had other thoughts and defeated the Brewers 4-2.  It was still a good series for the Brewers however as they took two out of three games from the Braves down in hot Atlanta.

Jeff Suppan suffered his sixth loss of the season as he fell to 4-6 after taking the loss on Wednesday.  Suppan pitched six innings and allowed nine hits and four runs to score.  Suppan did strike out five batters but still had trouble getting outs in the game.

Mitch Stetter and Guillermo Mota finished the up the game for the Brewers on the mound.  Stetter pitched 1 2/3 innings while Mota recorded the final out in the eighth inning.

The Brewers scored both of their runs on rbi doubles in the third inning.  Mike Rivera doubled to score Mike Cameron and then Rickie Weeks doubled to score Rivera.  The Brewers as a team were limited to only six hits during the game.

So after taking two of three from the Braves, the Brewers will now be off on Thursday as they fly to Minnesota to begin a three game series on Friday evening.

The Milwaukee Brewers held off the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday night and won 5-4.  It was the second straight game that the Brewers beat the Blue Jays and they will now be going for the three game sweep on Thursday afternoon.  I really like the Brewers chances of a sweep as they are playing really good baseball right now.

Ben Sheets improved to 8-1 as he tossed six innings and allowed four hits and two runs to get the victory.  Sheets walked four runners while striking out five other batters.  Pretty good outing for Sheets despite the four walks.

Carlos Villanueva and Guillermo Mota had a rough outing as they both gave up runs out of the bullpen.  Luckily for the Brewers they scored enough runs to have a little bit of insurance at the end of the game.

Russell Branyan and Mike Cameron both connected on solo home runs in the game.  Cameron finished the game with two rbi to lead the team while Branyan, Corey Hart, and Sheets all had one rbi in the game.

Now lets set back and see if the Brewers can sweep the Blue Jays on Thursday afternoon!

Once again the Milwaukee Brewers and Houston Astros played home run derby down at Minute Maid Park in Houston.  The two teams combined for seven more home runs as the Brewers hit four and the Astros hit three.  At the end of the game the Brewers were ahead on the scoreboard by the score of 9-6.

Mike Cameron (9th), Gabe Kapler (5th) , Prince Fielder (11) , and Corey Hart (10) all went deep for the Brewers.  Hart finished with three rbi in the game and then six other Brewers had one rbi.  Cameron, Kapler, Fielder, Ryan Braun, Russell Branyan, and Bill Hall all finished the game with one rbi.

Brewers starting pitcher Ben Sheets didn’t have the outing that he was hoping for even though he did throw seven innings.  Sheets gave up seven hits and three runs while giving up two home runs in the “Juice Box”.  Guillermo Mota pitched the seventh inning and gave up two more runs in the game when he came in after Sheet exited.  Salomon Torres pitched the ninth inning and also had some trouble as he gave up one run.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Houston Astros played home run derby down in Houston on Wednesday night and it was the Brewers coming out on top with a 10-6 victory.  The Brewers hammerd five home runs in the game while the Astros hit three.  It was definaly not a night you wanted to be on the mound pitching that is for sure.

Corey Hart led the Brewers with two – two run home runs and four rbi in the game.  Hart went deep in the fourth and eighth innings.  Jason Kendell was next in line with a two run homer in the fifth inning as he finished the game with two rbi.  Russell Branyan and Mike Cameron both hit solo home runs in the fourth inning as they had one rbi each in the game.  Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder both chipped in with one rbi each as well.

On the mound for the Brewers, Manny Parra earned the win and is now 5-2.  He only pitched 5 1/3 innigns as he gave up ten hits and five runs.  Parra was taken deep three times for home runs as he couldn’t keep the ball inside the field of play.  A win is a win and Parra will take it any way he can get it.

Carlos Villanueva pitched 1 2/3 innings after Parra exited the game and he gave up three hits and one run.  Guillermo Mota was called upon to pitch the final two innings of the game and did not have any problems as he didn’t allow a hit or a run.

Prince Fielder came up huge for the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night as he went deep in the eighth inning to give the Brewers the 4-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.  It was a very good win for the Brewers who beat the Diamondacks as they continue their slide.  Great way to start off the series!

Besides Fielder’s rbi, Bill Hall also had a rbi sac fly in the second inning.  The other two Brewers runs were not earned when they scored two runs in the seventh inning.  Diamondbacks third basemen Mark Reynolds committed a throwing error that allowed the two runs to score.

Guillermo Mota pitched the eighth inning to get the win in the game and is now 2-3.  Salomon Torres pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his sixth save of the season.  Moto and Torres were pitching in relief of Jeff Suppan who threw the first seven innings of the game.  Suppan gave up seven hits and three runs while getting a no decision.

The Milwaukee Brewers were able to stop their five game loosing streak with a 7-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.  The Brewers used five runs in the final three innings of the game to blow the game wide open.

Mike Cameron and Corey Hart both hit home runs for the Brewers.  Cameron and Jason Kendall both had two rbi in the game to lead the Brewers in that category.  Ryan Braun, Bill Hall, and Hart all had one rbi in the game as well for the Brewers.

Manny Parra pitched 5 2/3 innings to get the win and is now 2-2 on the season.  Parra gave up four hits but no runs in this five plus innings of action.  Seth McClung and Guillermo Mota pitched the next 2 1/3 innings before Eric Gagne came in and gave up two runs.  Yeah, once again Gagne sucked it up…

Lets see if the Brewers can get on a nice roll after snapping their losing streak.  Brewers Blog

The Milwaukee Brewers blew another ninth inning lead as the lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4.  The funny thing about this game is that Eric Gagne wasn’t even in the game to blow the lead!  This time it was Guillermo Mota who blew the lead and the game.

Mota gave up three runs in the ninth inning to take the loss which was his second of the season.  Moto gave up a two run double to Juan Pierre and then a rbi to Andruw Jones on a ground out to shortstop.  Manny Parra was in line to pick up the win before Moto blew the save.  Parra tossed 6 2/3 innings as he gave up three runs in the no decision.

Parra even led the Bewers with two rbi in the game.  Jason Kendall and Corey Hart also had one rbi in the game for the Brewers.

With the loss, the Brewers fall four games behind the league leading Chicago Cubs.

The Milwaukee Brewers lost at home by a score of 4-3 in the match up with the St. Louis Cardinals putting the Brewers at 11-8 for the year.  The Brewers went into the 9th inning tied 3-3 but to only give up a run to the Cardinals in the top half of the inning and end up losing.

Carlos Villanueva opened up the night for the Brewers throwing for seven innings and allowing three hits, two runs, and four walks.  Brian Shouse, Guillermo Mota, and Derrick Turnbow would be brought in to pitch the last three innings with Turnbow losing his first game of the season.

Rickie Weeks, Ryan Braun, and Corey Hart each picked up a RBI in Monday’s game.

The Brewers will take on the Cardinals one more time again tonight at home and then will move on to Philadelphia on Wednesday.
