Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker left the hospital Wednesday, eight days after his second heart surgery this year. The 75-year-old Uecker said in a statement released by the team that he's thankful to the doctors and staff at the hospital for his care and is encouraged to be going home. The latest surgery repaired a tear from the valve replacement performed in April.

I am a huge sports fan, and one of the things I love the most about sports is the traditions associated with the different professional and amateur leagues and teams. Some of these traditions are well known and widely popular, such as the playing of the National Anthem before a contest and others may be more associated with a region which we all learned this past summer during the Soccer World Cup when the vuvuzela was introduced to the rest of the world.

Dale Sveum is staying with the Milwaukee Brewers as hitting coach, even though the team hasn't hired a new manager. The team said Saturday night that Sveum had agreed to a two-year contract. Sveum has been on the Brewers staff for five seasons, as third-base coach (2006 and 2008), bench coach (2007) and hitting coach (2009-10).

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Manny Parra has undergone surgery to repair a small tear in the labrum his left hip. Parra was operated on Thursday by Dr. William Raasch in Milwaukee. The team said the pitcher will rehabilitate in California, where he lives in Roseville, and that he is expected to be ready for spring training.
